The Best Skincare Tips (that never change)

If you're an avid skin care person (like me) you know there are always new trends, things that you should be doing that you rush to implement into your routine and things that you should not be doing that you try to stop immediately (yeah... been there, done that!) and by the end of it all, your head is spinning! Well thanks to your resident "skin care guru" as I've deemed myself, these are the tried and true tips that never seem to change and (fingers crossed) never will:
1) Drink water: I know, I know what is the deal with water? That's all we hear. Does it even work? Sometimes it seems impossible to see results whether you drink the sensible recommended 8 cups a day or the 1 gallon a day challenge, I've heard time and again that this water advice doesn't make a difference but I'm here to tell you that it does! Let's think of it logically, dehydration is the biggest consequence of lack of water intake, if you're dehydrated this shows internally and externally, which means your skin is also lacking hydration too. Dry skin is basically the arch-nemesis of skincare so while you're hydrating your outside, make sure you're hydrating your inside as well.
2) Wear sunscreen: I admit, this one has become implemented in my routine more recently than I care to say but the results in that time = amazing. I can only think of all the damage my skin was exposed to prior to daily sunscreen wearing.
3) Layer products from thinnest to thickest: Another tried tip that has changed my life! Start with the most "liquidy" product first and move up to the thickest. If you put the thickest first or a thicker one before a liquid one, your skin can't absorb it properly and get all of the goodness you're trying to give it!
4) Cleanse: Cleansing your skin is so important, even if you don't wear make-up or even if you can't see build up, it's there and clogging up your pores.
5) Have both a morning and night skin-care routine: yes, they are different and require different products. For example, I am not putting on sunscreen when I do my nighttime routine nor am I putting on my overnight face mask on in the morning. The way your skin reacts and absorbs during the day when you're on the move versus the night totally differs. This brings me to number 6...
6) Adjust your skin-care routine to fit your climate (weather): Having a different routine that requires different products is almost necessary if you live in a seasonal place. My skin gets horrible in the Winter and Spring and glowing in the Summer and Fall due to external elements due to this, I slightly switch up my routines every season.
7) Learn your skin type: this might be the most important tip of them all! The aforementioned tips are amazing but if you truly don't know your skin type, this can cause all kinds of havoc in your routine, the products you use etc.
8) Do your research: To connect with all of the tips, it is so integral that you research, experiment and learn about what routines and products and changes work for you and your skin. What works for one person usually never exactly works for another. Visiting a dermatologist and talking with your doctor before making any drastic changes is always recommended.
