New Year Reminders

Hello lovely people! Last year I started a personal tradition of writing down a list that includes a combination of lessons and reminders to take into the new year. I decided to do that again and share it with you all just in case you too needed some "reminders".
1. Life will lead you down mysterious paths - Sometimes they’re horrible and more often than not they turn out to be amazing. Trust the process and the timing.
2. Success isn’t a straight path - It takes multiple falls, reroutes and detours but you’ll get there. Hold the vision. If you’re working towards it, you will eventually achieve it.
3. Healing isn’t linear - It’s okay to think you’re over something and then one day it comes back and disappears again. The scars that have gotten you to this point are there to remind you of your strength and to create a space for gratitude.
4. Relationships are messy - The relationship with yourself is perhaps the messiest one of all and impacts every other relationship in your life; friends, family, coworkers, partners… they aren’t always easy but they all serve their purpose. Regardless of who it is, if it doesn’t serve you, you have the right to walk away in any form.
5. Boundaries are necessary - Even if other people don’t take advantage of your lack of boundaries, you will find yourself consistently being let down if you don’t set limits on what is and isn’t for you. Find your voice and speak it even when it shakes. It is okay to say no. The only pushback you get is from those who didn’t respect you in the first place (including yourself). Boundaries help us find the right ones for us.
6. Life never goes “your way” - Although this may seem like a negative, it’s not. We all have goals and timelines but life always has other plans, the key is to be prepared for the unexpected and go with the flow. Everything is happening perfectly.
7. Things are working for you, not against you - Pronoia instead of paranoia. When we get stuck in a victim mentality, nothing will ever go our way.
8. Real love requires work - It seems ‘unromantic’ but true love consists of balance, effort, respect, patience, forgiveness and choices. Choosing each other everyday even when it’s hard is where love stems from. Passion, romance and lust becomes stronger when those ‘unromantic’ notions are the core of your relationship. Romance movies and fairy tales exist but it is what comes after the happy ending that leads to forever.
9. Have fun - Work is important, responsibilities are important but we literally can create any life we desire. Being stuck in unhappiness of any kind becomes a choice. If something is calling out to you, do everything possible to make it happen. Life is meant to be lived not dreaded.
10. Remain teachable - The most dangerous thing is an attitude of ignorance. Sometimes talking less allows you to learn more. You do not have to stay stuck in mentalities that no longer suit your newfound knowledge. It is okay to change your mind.
